No online licence checking for now

Published Friday, May 22nd 2009

Fleet News reports that DVLA plans to introduce an online licence checking service have been put on ice. The idea was that fleet managers would be able to check drivers’ licences with the DVLA via a third-party portal.

The plug is reported to have been pulled on trials with a number of licence checking companies and the DVLA is in no hurry to announce a new launch date or even fresh trials.

A DVLA spokesperson told Fleet News that: “The introduction of the online Driver Licence Check service has been postponed, but the agency continues to operate a range of alternative products for the checking of driver entitlement through telephone, paper and electronic channels.”
