A Bankstone team comprising senior staff and customers set out with high hopes of glory at this year’s Insurance Endurance karting event. The elements had other plans, however, and heavy rain put a damper on the whole event. The Bankstone team was more than holding its own when the deluge commenced in earnest. Pre-warned of potentially inclement conditions, our secret weapon, Commander A. Jones, (clad fetchingly from head to toe in rubber) was taking to the wet conditions like the proverbial duck to water, surfing his own bow waves to move up through the field while other drivers pulled in to change their soggy attire. But just as victory seemed to beckon, officials waded in to call proceedings to a halt. Despite the best efforts of circuit staff to clear the surface water with portable petrol powered pumps, puddles persisted several feet deep, precluding any prospect of resumption. We’ll be back next year with a hovercraft, just in case.
