Strange but true: the heir and putative successor to beleaguered Libyan Leader Muammar al-Gaddafi spent three months taking calls in a motor insurance call centre in Chelmsford as work experience while studying in London during the summer of 2007.

Saif al-Islam Muammar al-Gaddafi admitted that he was unimpressed with the British weather, but remembered his time in Essex with fondness.

“We had some crazy people calling up,” he recalled in an interview with the Chelmsford Weekly News last year. “One very strange man wanted us to insure a fort,” he remembered, “and a really crazy woman said she wanted a quote for her porch! We used to laugh a lot about these things,” he said, going on to add: “We will fight to the last minute, until the last bullet.”
